" VERAS "
simply explained:
An improvement for traffic and a balance for people, animals, and nature.
This year we are voting on money for an important construction project.
It has a big impact on the future.

There is more and more traffic. Why?
Therefore, in the future, cars should
The planning took a lot of time. So
We drive to work, order packages that do not want to stop in Suhr, have large projects in Suhr, many small intersections in new apartments, or just pass by. In addition, there are also places where roads need space,
Better sidewalks and new bike paths are needed. This increases safety and people can
Especially many cars on the roads. In Suhr, there are often traffic jams. The cars stand still between the railway crossing at Möbel Pfister, the intersection at Hotel Bären, and the roundabout in front of the shops on Tramstrasse.
The canton has been working for more than twenty years on a good solution for Suhr and the region. The traffic jam in the village center and at the two barriers is unpleasant for everyone.
A part of "VERAS" is a bypass of Suhr. Cars can drive through a new tunnel under Suhr. Just before Möbel Pfister, there is a new chalk circle. From there, a bridge (blue) leads directly over the railway track to Suhr. The barrier disappears. Those who live, shop, or visit here get to their destination faster. Those going directly to Gränichen or the Wynental drive from the roundabout directly into the tunnel (red). The tunnel goes under the Wynematte in the south of Suhr and comes out again on the road to Gränichen before the motorway bridge.
In addition, there will later be a new road along the motorway to Oberentfelden (green).
The relief road runs along the motorway to Oberentfelden.

VERAS Short Information
What does VERAS mean?
Traffic Infrastructure Development Space Suhr
Why is VERAS needed?
The streets and life in Suhr become more beautiful and the people in Suhr and Gränichen feel better about Suhr. This is also good for the economy.
What does VERAS cost?
The total costs for our share for Suhr are currently being calculated by the canton.
What does VERAS include?
An improvement of the streets and paths for cars, pedestrians, and bicycles.
During construction, animals, landscape, and environment are also considered.
What does VERAS bring to Suhr and the region?
For Suhr and the Wynental, the traffic jam becomes smaller. Travel times become shorter. There is less noise and exhaust.
When will VERAS come?
The start of construction is planned for 2026. First, the Suhr municipal assembly will vote this year on the contribution of the municipality. Then the Grand Council will vote on the cantonal contribution.
Who pays for it?
The law states how much of the roads the municipality of Suhr must pay and how much the canton. The federal government and canton provide a lot of money for "VERAS" because they are convinced that it is an improvement from which many people benefit. For such improvements, a lot of money comes from the road fund. Drivers have paid for it, for example, with the motorway vignette, the mineral oil tax when refueling petrol, and the motor vehicle tax.
Suhr must pay the smallest part of the project. But that is still a lot of money for Suhr. However, we do not have to pay the entire amount immediately but a small part each year. Just like when paying for the school building.
To Suhr: A bridge over the SBB track at Pfister instead of traffic jam at the barrier.
Pascal Nater is the communications officer of the municipality of Suhr.
A roundabout leads to the bridge over the SBB track and to the entrance to the tunnel.
The tunnel begins behind Möbel Pfister and leads past Suhr to Gränichen and the Wynental.

Questions to Matthias Adelsbach
The overall project manager of the canton of Aargau is deputy cantonal engineer and has already informed several times at the information forum about the project status.
Matthias Adelsbach,
Deputy Cantonal Engineer (zvg).
Interview: Pascal Nater
The canton has been planning for years. Now the project is entering the decisive phase. Are you nervous?
No, I am not nervous, especially since I am convinced that we have developed a very good project that brings benefits for Suhr. And my conversations at the Gwärbi in Gränichen confirmed to me that the desire for an improvement of the situation is also very great in the region.
Who pays the planning costs if the credit is rejected?
So far, the canton has borne the planning costs. If the credit is rejected, the project would be completed. As part of the settlement, the municipality of Suhr would be charged a share of the planning costs. The basis for determining the cost key is also the Road Act.
The current situation of the renovated Tramstrasse is a topic in the village. Is a half-connection to the A1 motorway not the better solution?
The Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) is very cautious about new connections because these usually have weaknesses in traffic flow on the motorway. One must also understand that motorway connections act like a sponge and attract additional traffic. The local through traffic of Suhr and Gränichen would even get additional traffic.
What happens if Suhr rejects the credit for VERAS?
Without measures, the traffic problem and the associated burdens in the settlement area of Suhr will increase, and the situation will become more difficult. The local through traffic of Suhr and Gränichen would even get additional traffic.
Not only Suhr benefits from VERAS. Why does only Suhr have to pay something?
Suhr's share of the total costs of VERAS is only a few percent. The vast majority is financed by the cantonal motor vehicle tax, i.e., for example, by a driver living in Frick or the owner of a truck in Muri. And they have relatively little to do with VERAS. In addition, there is a large financial contribution that the federal government has already guaranteed.
