METAS – or the Federal Institute of Metrology – is the reference institute in Switzerland for measurements and measuring instruments. To ensure that a litre is always a litre (for example when you fill up), METAS carries out calibrations, conformity assessments and provides advice to the economy, research and administration. A trusted source, especially socially and politically, metrological accuracy is essential in many fields: road traffic, electricity billing, time dissemination, environmental and health measurements, etc. In short, at METAS, disciplines have been coexisting and interacting since 1862.
Your tasks
- Operate and develop our server and virtual system infrastructure, particularly Windows Server, Linux and VMware, ensuring security and availability
- Manage and develop central aspects of the infrastructure such as storage, backups, Active Directory and monitoring
- Plan and independently carry out technical upgrades, system migrations and lifecycle measures, thereby developing our infrastructure architecture and technical standards
- Utilise your analytical and problem-solving skills during complex technical malfunctions, optimise existing systems and automate recurring tasks
- Assume technical responsibilities, clearly document solutions and collaborate closely with colleagues and external partners
Your profile
- Education in computer science and several years of proven professional experience in engineering and operation of complex IT infrastructures
- Very good knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory and VMware vSphere, and experience in operating Linux systems
- Comfortable with storage, backup and network technologies as well as experience in monitoring, system migration and lifecycle management
- Autonomous in systematically solving complex technical challenges and experience with PowerShell or other automation technologies
- Structured working method, sense of responsibility, enthusiasm for professional exchanges with your team and willingness to provide on-call support with colleagues at weekends
