Postdoc in Research Software Engineering in Computational Acoustics
Environmental noise from air and ground-borne traffic is an underestimated problem. In our research group, we develop new technical solutions to mitigate noise. In this position, you will further develop our numerical simulations for outdoor sound propagation. You advance our existing simulation platform to consider atmospheric turbulence effects and make it fit to run on a supercomputer. You will apply your newly developed simulation tools within different research projects.
This new position is embedded in the international research project LION 2 on the localisation of moving sound sources and is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. This project is conducted with partner institutions from Germany and Austria.
Your tasks
Your work includes
- Taking responsibility for our unique GPU-accelerated 3D FDTD software suite and extending its capabilities
- Modelling the effects of atmospheric turbulence fields
- Software development (3D modelling and coding in Python, C++ and CUDA)
- Code verification and validation of simulations
- Providing simulation results to project partners and customers
- Active participation in project, group and lab meetings, knowledge transfer, presentations and scientific publications
Your profile
You have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Acoustics or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science. Experience with scientific computing in Matlab, Python, or C++ is required. A strong interest in numerical modelling, sound, signal processing and programming is expected. Additionally, very good command of German and English as well as experience with 3D CAD are a plus.
Our offer
We offer an exciting position in a top ranked research institution and research infrastructure environment. The starting date is in autumn 2025. The duration of the appointment is three years.
We live a culture of inclusion and respect. We welcome all people who are interested in innovative, sustainable and meaningful activities - that's what counts.
We look forward to receiving your complete online application including a letter of motivation, CV, detailed grades obtained during the Master studies and a list of three references. Please submit these exclusively via our job portal. Applications by e-mail and by post will not be considered.
