PhD Assistant at the BioMotion Center
The BioMotion Center of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Service of the CHUV is recruiting a PhD assistant for a renewable one-year fixed-term contract, starting October 1, 2025, at a workload of 80% to 100%.
Context
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, it plays a leading role in care, research, and education.
The Orthopedics and Traumatology Service and the Radiodiagnosis and Interventional Radiology Service are conducting a major research project on knee osteoarthritis called the "Lausanne Knee Study (LKS)". This interdisciplinary project aims to model the healthy joint and identify factors contributing to disease development. In this context, a PhD Assistant position with a biomechanics focus is open for application.
Mission
- You will carry out a doctoral thesis within the LKS project, under the supervision of Prof. Julien Favre and Prof. Patrick Omoumi
- You will contribute to data collection and analysis, as well as to the interpretation and dissemination of research results
- You will collaborate with the international LKS project team
- You will attend doctoral school training
- You will participate in the common activities of the Center
Profile
- You hold a Master’s degree in engineering (e.g., mechanical, life sciences, biomedical, electrical, or computer science), or an equivalent qualification
- You have a strong interest in biomechanics (movement, joint structure, and modeling)
- You have training and/or experience in movement analysis
- You are comfortable in French and English, both spoken and written
- You are a rigorous and diligent person
- You are motivated with a strong sense of organization and interprofessional collaboration
- You are willing to complete a doctoral thesis within the LKS project
- Training and/or experience in data science, preferably in medical imaging and/or disease modeling, is an asset
- Experience in clinical and/or movement data collection is also an asset
