Workplace Basel - North West Switzerland - SwitzerlandCategoryPositionPublished4 May 2026The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a globally renowned institute in the field of global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, teaching and services at local, national and international levels. Around 1,000 people from 96 countries work at Swiss TPH in areas such as infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health, as well as health systems and programmes.
At the Centre for Tropical and Travel Medicine, travellers from Basel and the surrounding area are advised before travel and treated afterwards. As a national reference centre for imported parasitic diseases in humans, it offers a variety of services to doctors and hospitals throughout Switzerland.
Your Tasks
- You are a central point of contact for our clients - both in travel medicine consultation and at the front desk
- Conducting individual consultation sessions to prepare for stays abroad, especially regarding health risks, vaccination recommendations and specific precautions for the respective travel country; additionally, you take on reception duties and provide administrative support
- Review and assessment of the current vaccination status based on the vaccination record, with particular attention to basic vaccinations that are necessary and sensible independently of planned travel
- Administration of vaccinations: advising on and carrying out recommended and required vaccinations taking into account pre-existing conditions and existing vaccination schedules
- Recommendations for travel pharmacies of necessary medications
Your Profile
- Basic medical training such as nurse specialist, MPA or comparable qualification
- You appreciate direct contact with our clients and enjoy advising them individually and competently
- You can quickly adapt to different customer needs and think solution-oriented to offer comprehensive and coordinated consultations
- You have fluent German skills as well as good English and French skills; additional foreign languages are an advantage and facilitate advising our international clientele
- You possess strong communication skills and enjoy working in a team
