The profession "Orthopaedic Technician EFZ"
Activities:
Illness, accident or a congenital impairment can lead to restricted mobility. Orthopaedic technicians EFZ support people in improving their mobility through their work. They manufacture prostheses, orthoses and rehabilitation aids and adjust them if necessary. Prostheses replace a missing or functionally reduced limb. Orthoses are splints, corsets and insoles that provide support and correct posture. A rehabilitation aid serves to support sitting and the back in a wheelchair or also to support lying down at night.
Together with the doctor, physiotherapist, cost bearers and the client, orthopaedic technicians EFZ determine which aid is suitable. Each prosthesis, orthosis or rehabilitation aid is individually planned, manufactured and documented. Often the device must be adjusted and modified several times, for example during the rehabilitation phase, until it fits optimally. Orthopaedic technicians EFZ also repair orthopaedic aids.
With empathy and knowledge of anatomy and pathology, orthopaedic technicians EFZ advise customers: They show them ways in which orthopaedic aids can make everyday life easier. Through their precision work, they enable clients to wear the prosthesis or orthosis comfortably and confidently, thus improving the quality of life of those affected. In addition, new technological developments make seating, walking and standing aids look increasingly aesthetic and natural.
Orthopaedic technicians EFZ perform millimetre-precise fine craftsmanship. To manufacture mobility aids, they use various metals, wood, plastics, plaster, leather and padding materials. Corresponding to the variety of materials and work processes, the professionals use various tools and machines. Orthopaedic technicians EFZ adhere to regulations on hygiene and occupational safety as well as health and environmental protection.
