The Office for Transport and Civil Engineering (AVT) is responsible for the further development and maintenance of the cantonal roads and paths as well as their operational upkeep. It plans and commissions public regional and local transport and approves traffic measures on municipal roads. The goal is to ensure efficient, safe, and sustainable traffic mobility in the canton. For the Road Construction Department, we are seeking a Head of Department Road Construction, 80-100% at the Solothurn location from 01.12.2026 or by agreement.
Your responsibilities
- You lead the Road Construction Department with around 20 employees and are responsible for their personnel, technical, and organisational management.
- In your role, you are responsible for the design and realisation of cantonal road construction projects, from planning to successful implementation.
- You manage the annual and multi-year planning of road construction investments, while always keeping an eye on deadlines, costs, and quality.
- You oversee a diverse project portfolio and ensure targeted, economical, and high-quality project execution.
- As a member of the management team, you help shape the further development of the office and represent it in cantonal and extra-cantonal committees, commissions, and working groups.
Your profile
- You have a completed civil engineering degree from ETH/FH or an equivalent qualification.
- Extensive knowledge and several years of experience in the design and realisation of complex road construction projects – especially in urban areas – distinguish you.
- As a motivating leader, you bring several years of leadership experience as well as solid knowledge in project and portfolio management.
- You think holistically, quickly grasp different interests and requirements, and carefully weigh them against each other.
- You work independently and solution-oriented, value teamwork, and communicate clearly, confidently, and appropriately both orally and in writing.
