Chief Resident (Deputy) in the Addiction Medicine Service

The Addiction Medicine Service is seeking a chief resident (deputy) in psychiatry and psychotherapy at a workload of 80% to 100%, on a permanent contract, to join the North Vaud Outpatient Consultation Unit (UCAN) in Yverdon-les-Bains. The starting date is scheduled for 1 November 2026.

You will participate in the psychiatric and psychotherapeutic care of addictions within an interdisciplinary team and have the opportunity to develop your expertise in addiction medicine.

Context

The Lausanne University Hospital Centre (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, the CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research, and education.

The Department of Psychiatry consists of 12 services addressing the three stages of life. It covers the Central, Western, and Northern psychiatric sectors of the canton. Its mission is to provide comprehensive and multidisciplinary care for children, adolescents, adults, and elderly people suffering from mental disorders. The teams offer acute care, outpatient follow-ups, as well as interventions in patients’ usual living environments.

Led by Prof. Jean-Bernard Daeppen, the Addiction Medicine Service’s mission is to welcome and support anyone questioning their addictive behaviours, with or without substances, as well as their relatives. It also intervenes with patients and care teams at CHUV facing addictive issues.

The Service includes outpatient, inpatient, and liaison services and provides interdisciplinary addiction follow-ups combining somatic, psychiatric, and social expertise. It also fulfils various mandates from the Federal Office of Public Health.

For opioid use disorders, the Addiction Medicine Service notably offers opioid agonist treatments (OAT), as well as a treatment programme with diacetylmorphine (DAM – pharmaceutical heroin).

Mission

You will join the medical team of the Addiction Medicine Service and participate in a varied activity. In this context:

• You provide psychiatric and psychotherapeutic treatment for patients with substance-related or behavioural addictions
• You supervise and mentor assistant physicians in their training and in the care provided to patients
• You participate in the supervision and support of the care team in managing psychiatric issues
• You progressively develop expertise in addiction medicine as well as in psychiatry and psychotherapy of addictions, particularly in managing opioid use disorders and opioid agonist treatments.

Profile

• You hold or are in the process of obtaining an FMH title in psychiatry and psychotherapy; for foreign diplomas, MEBEKO recognition is required
• You have at least three years’ experience in general psychiatry, including one year in addiction medicine
• For non-French-speaking candidates, you have at least B2 level French proficiency and can provide a corresponding certificate.
