About the job
How does life emerge from molecules and cells? This is the central question that motivates us. With curiosity and passion, we investigate the entire spectrum ranging from the atom to the organism. The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the world's leading life sciences institutes. With 32 groups and 500 employees, we are a dynamic and international research community that has spawned many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine as well as several Nobel Laureates. Become part of our community!
The Keller-Valsecchi team investigates the epigenetic mechanisms and physiological relevance of gene dosage in regulating cellular function in male and female animals - from individual genes to chromosome-wide scales. We combine work in non-model organisms (like mosquitos or brine shrimp) with model systems (like Drosophila or human pluripotent stem cells) and thus are a highly diverse group.
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team in an ERC-funded project. In this project, we aim to unravel sex-specific chromatin regulation across the animal tree of life by generating and integrating transcriptomes, proteomes, and epigenomes (CUT&Tag) from dozens of species.

Your profile
- PhD in molecular biology, computational evolutionary biology, or a related life science discipline
- Expertise in bioinformatics and analysis/visualization of NGS datasets (R, command line, workflow management)
- Hands-on experience with standard molecular biology techniques (PCR, RT-qPCR, microscopy, ideally genomics)
- Knowledge of non-model genomes, genome annotation, and/or integration of multi-omic datasets (RNA-seq, chromatin profiling, chromatin accessibility, proteomics) is an asset
- Ability to work independently and drive a research project in a structured and systematic manner
- Willingness to work with non-model organisms and non-standard experimental systems
- Strong communication skills and ability to conduct projects in a team together with e.g. research assistants and undergraduate students
We offer you
- An exciting and ambitious project with room for intellectual independence and the opportunity to build your own research profile
- Active support for career development, opportunities to visit conferences / courses and collaborate internationally
- Stimulating research environment with world-class infrastructure in a brand-new research building and access to state-of-the-art technology platforms
- Training in advanced wet lab techniques and/or bioinformatic approaches, depending on your background
