The site operates within a demanding framework regarding compliance, quality, safety, and operational performance, subject to European, Belgian regulations and ISO standards.
Position Overview
The Senior EHS Manager also acts as a Level 1 Prevention Advisor, in accordance with Belgian workplace well-being regulations.
In this role, you are the primary reference for health, safety, and environment at the Seneffe site. You are responsible for the implementation, management, and continuous improvement of the EHS system, as well as compliance with legal obligations regarding risk prevention.
Position Objective
Ensure regulatory compliance, prevention of occupational and environmental risks, and the development of a sustainable safety culture, while supporting production and laboratory activities in a GMP environment.
Main Responsibilities
EHS Strategy and Leadership
Define and deploy the site’s EHS strategy in line with the company’s global standards
Promote and strengthen the safety culture at all levels of the organisation
Advise site management on EHS matters and strategic decisions
Lead continuous improvement initiatives in safety and environment
Regulatory Compliance and Role as Level 1 Prevention Advisor
Ensure compliance with Belgian and European health, safety, and environmental regulations
Apply the Belgian Well-being at Work Code
Maintain and improve ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems
Prepare and coordinate internal and external audits
Guarantee compliance with GMP requirements in production and laboratory environments
As a Level 1 Prevention Advisor, you are responsible for identifying, assessing, and preventing occupational risks across the entire site.
Risk and Incident Management
Identify, assess, and control industrial, chemical, and operational risks
Supervise the management of hazardous products and waste
Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective and preventive action plans
Ensure preparation and management of emergency situations
Operational Support
Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams
Support the introduction of new processes, equipment, and substances
Conduct safety inspections, internal audits, and risk assessments
Ensure implementation of PPE, COSHH, and biosecurity requirements
Training, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement
Develop and deliver EHS training to employees and contractors
Monitor and analyse EHS performance indicators
Implement continuous improvement actions
Encourage team engagement in safety and sustainability
Candidate Profile
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environment, health and safety, engineering, or equivalent scientific discipline
Experience
Minimum 6 to 8 years of EHS experience in regulated environments (pharma, biotech, chemical or manufacturing industry)
At least 5 years of experience in team or EHS function management
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of European EHS regulations and/or OSHA
Proficiency in ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems
Experience in chemical and industrial risk management
Experience in GMP environment highly valued
Desired Certifications
Certification as Level 1 Prevention Advisor (Belgium) or equivalent highly desired
Professional certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM or equivalents) appreciated
