Job Description
The University of Geneva (UNIGE) offers a multicultural professional environment, with research laboratories using cutting-edge technologies, and a dynamic of sustained scientific exchanges between the various concerned departments.
Attached to the Faculty of Medicine, the Geneva Tumour Registry (GTR) records, for health surveillance and research purposes, all new cancer cases occurring in people residing in the canton at the time of diagnosis.
Data collection and registration rules have been governed since 2020 by the Law on the Registration of Oncological Diseases (LEMO). The registry data are included in the national database managed by the ONEC within the FOPH.
To replace a maternity leave, the Geneva Tumour Registry is opening a position for:
Unlicensed Professional Coder (80%)
The holder will be responsible for managing the registry data, which involves identifying, sorting, organising, and recording information related to cancer cases from medical clinical documents, originating from the hospital or private sector using specialised software.
The main tasks will be to create patient files, complete their medical records in the registry database, and code new tumour cases.
Specifically, the holder will be responsible for updating the registration and coding of cases from 2023 onwards, in order to meet the national data transmission requirements following the implementation of LEMO from 1 January 2020.
These tasks require knowledge of the codes and coding rules of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10), Oncological ICD (ICD-O3), as well as the Swiss Classification of Medical-Surgical Interventions (CHOP).
Continuing education in oncological coding will be provided by us.
Title and Required Skills
- Higher technical education or federal maturity certificate or equivalent qualification
- Recommended medical coder certificate or equivalent diploma
- Diploma in a paramedical field, an advantage
- Desired experience in medical coding
- Professional experience in the medical field and knowledge of the Swiss hospital environment appreciated
- Very good basic computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite and Adobe
- Very good command of the French language (English and/or German an advantage)
