The Office for Consumer Protection and Veterinary Affairs AVSV, with its approximately 100 employees, is responsible for veterinary services as well as food and chemical control in the canton of St. Gallen. The office is embedded in the Department of Health and ensures the protection of consumers and the well-being of animals.
As part of the official food control, the Chemistry Department analyzes food and consumer goods of all kinds, such as dietary supplements, dairy products, drinking and bathing water, toys, tattoo inks, and cosmetics, and assesses them according to food law requirements.
