Projectathon 2019 – Goal in Sight on the Way to the EPD

As in the two previous years, CISTEC was represented at the "EPD Projectathon" at the end of September. This year’s event was the final test occasion before the launch of the Electronic Patient Record in April 2020, to test the KISIM EPD integration together with 18 other manufacturers represented in Bern.

Within the framework of peer-to-peer tests (individual transactions) and group tests (complete use cases), the EPD integration of KISIM was successfully tested with real community systems – including providers such as Swisscom or Post. These two companies provide the components for the core communities Axsana, SteHAG or Südost, to which all current customers of CISTEC AG have connected. In addition to verifying the features already tested the previous year, new functionalities could also be tested. For example, the so-called "XUA Technical User" was verified for the first time. This enables the upload of documents into the EPD without a healthcare professional having to log in to the EPD beforehand using two-factor authentication.

Another highlight from CISTEC’s perspective was the successful test of the transactions for communication with the Health Provider Directory (HPD). Any ambiguities in the specification could be clarified promptly and straightforwardly with the specialists from various providers. KISIM is thus able to feed information concerning healthcare professionals, auxiliary staff and groups into the HPD of a community. The required information is usually maintained in KISIM – KISIM then automatically maps this into the HPD. The information forms the basis for the authorisation system of the Electronic Patient Record and is therefore of central importance. The functionality will next be tested by pilot customers in their environment.

The test event showed that the fundamental use cases (Document Consumer, Document Source, HPD Feed) have been implemented in accordance with the legislation (EPDG) that came into force in July 2019. We are therefore definitely ready to connect our customers’ KISIM systems to the respective EPD community and thus create added value for patients and healthcare providers. For the hospitals in Solothurn as well as the University Hospital Zurich, the connection to the XAD test environment (Axsana) has already taken place during the summer.

After the Projectathon is before the Projectathon… In addition to connecting the next customers, the EPD functionality of KISIM will be further expanded in the future. For example, the possibility will be created to send patient data from KISIM to the community’s Master Patient Index (MPI Feed, ITI-44). In addition, integration of Image Consumer functionality is being worked on in collaboration with Synedra. Another milestone will finally be the support of the exchange formats to be adopted in the near future. The purpose of these is the exchange of structured data (example: eMedication) between KISIM and the Electronic Patient Record.
