About the job
About Siemens Digital Industries Software
We are a leading global software company dedicated to the world of computer aided design, 3D modeling and simulation—helping innovative global manufacturers design better products, faster! With the resources of a large company and the energy of a software start-up, we have fun together while creating an extraordinary software portfolio. Our culture encourages creativity, welcomes fresh thinking, and focuses on growth, so our people, our business, and our customers can achieve their full potential.
Position Overview
This position is an opportunity to be at the forefront of companies' innovative usage of simulation in industrial and research environments. You will operate across sectors such as Aerospace, Energy, Automotive and Marine, in application areas including aerodynamics, thermal cooling, fluid-structure interaction, combustion and multiphase flows.
A genuine, first-principles understanding of the underlying physics is the core requirement of this role — no amount of tooling replaces the ability to know whether a CFD result is physically sound. Beyond that, we're increasingly looking for engineers with an interest in AI along one or both of these dimensions:
- Agentic AI workflows — how AI agents can orchestrate, automate, or accelerate parts of the simulation workflow (e.g. automated case setup, intelligent meshing decisions, workflow orchestration across CAD–mesh–solve–post)
- AI/ML for model training and inference — how machine learning models are trained on simulation data and used for fast inference (e.g. surrogate/reduced-order models, ML-assisted design space exploration)
You don't need deep expertise in both — authentic curiosity and working familiarity with either is a strong differentiator on top of solid CFD fundamentals.
Key Responsibilities
The Application Engineer is expected to work closely with current and potential customers to understand their engineering workflows and processes, and to propose solution methodologies and best practices that help them meet their objectives. General day-to-day activities include:
- Using all aspects of CFD: CAD handling, meshing, solving, complex physics modelling, post-processing, coupling to other codes
- Applying AI/ML-driven capabilities within Simcenter STAR-CCM+ where relevant — from agentic automation of routine workflow steps to ML-based surrogate modelling for faster design exploration — always grounded in sound physical understanding of the underlying problem
- Following and using new modelling techniques and features introduced across Simcenter STAR-CCM+'s twice-yearly release cycle, finding new application areas and creating new simulation examples
- Conducting training courses and customised mentoring
- Conducting product demonstrations for a broad range of applications
- Working on benchmark and validation studies
- Interacting with customers remotely or at their offices to build a deep understanding of their challenges and assist with their projects
- Building deep familiarity with specific customer accounts and taking ownership of their adoption journey — proactively problem-solving and advising on efficient deployment of both CFD methodology and emerging AI-driven workflow tooling
- Crafting engineering solutions to fix or improve customers' CAE workflows and results — in performance, accuracy and robustness
- Inspiring and enabling the use of automated design space exploration and optimisation, supported by modern AI/ML techniques
- Presenting our technology at seminars and conferences
Qualifications
- Degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related science
- Postgraduate study (MSc/PhD) in fluid mechanics or a related discipline is a strong plus, but not a strict requirement — we value demonstrated CFD problem-solving ability as much as the credential
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Excellent problem-solving and organisational skills
- A strong, hands-on problem-solving mindset and comfort operating close to the customer as a trusted advisor — taking ownership of an account's success, not just responding to inbound questions
- A natural inclination toward innovation — looking for better ways to solve engineering problems rather than defaulting to established approaches
- occasional travelling
The team is based in London - we offer hybrid working, with a genuine, regular presence in the office.
