About the job
Accompany and enable societal developments – with strategic foresight and a strong network.
The Sophie and Karl Binding Foundation in Basel-Stadt has been committed for many decades to social cohesion as well as the preservation and further development of Switzerland’s natural, cultural, and intellectual values. Through its funding activities in the areas of environment, social affairs, and culture, it supports projects and organisations across Switzerland in the fields of biodiversity and landscape, children and youth, social cohesion, and the arts.
As part of a succession arrangement due to the retirement of the current postholder, we are seeking from June 2027 or by agreement an entrepreneurial-minded individual as
Managing Director
You will lead the office with two employees and ensure a professional organisation of the entire funding business. In close collaboration with the Board of Trustees, you will prepare decision-making bases, accompany funding applications as well as own projects, and ensure the purpose-compliant and impact-oriented use of funds. Furthermore, you will represent the foundation towards applicants, partner organisations, authorities, and other stakeholders and maintain contacts at regional and national levels.
You have a university degree as well as several years of professional and leadership experience – ideally in the foundation sector, a non-profit organisation, or in the cultural/social field. You combine strategic thinking with pragmatic implementation and navigate confidently at the interfaces of governance, project management, and operational leadership. In addition, you bring a sound understanding of financial matters and asset management as well as pronounced organisational skills. You are a loyal, resilient, and integrous personality with an established network in the Basel region (ideally also at the national level). Furthermore, you have a confident command of German, very good knowledge of a second national language (preferably French), and good IT user skills.
It is not the size of the office that makes this role special, but the variety of topics and the opportunity to actively shape societal developments.
We look forward to receiving your complete application documents (PDF).
