The Laboratory Technician is a technical contributor within the Machine-Readable Features Laboratory, supporting the development, preparation, characterization, and validation of machine-readable security features used for authentication and traceability applications.
The role combines hands-on laboratory activities including pigment evaluation, ink preparation, sample manufacturing, measurement and characterization, testing, and laboratory support. Working closely with chemists, scientists, optics engineers, and other technical experts, the Laboratory Technician contributes to the efficient execution of R&D projects and the generation of high-quality experimental data.
This position is well suited for a laboratory professional seeking to develop expertise in functional materials, pigments, inks, and machine-readable security technologies within an innovative industrial R&D environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and formulate laboratory-scale inks, dispersions, and material samples according to established procedures.
- Support the evaluation and development of functional pigments, materials, and machine-readable security features.
- Perform laboratory experiments and testing activities under the guidance of chemists and project leaders.
- Conduct measurements and characterization using a variety of laboratory equipment and analytical instruments.
- Prepare test specimens, printed samples, and experimental batches for characterization and validation activities.
- Collect, record, organize, and report experimental data while ensuring data quality and traceability.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety regulations, quality standards, and good laboratory practices.
Profile
- Swiss Federal VET Diploma in Chemical Laboratory Technology
Technical Skills
- Hands-on laboratory experience with chemical preparation, sample handling, and experimental testing.
- Ability to perform measurements using laboratory and characterization equipment while following established protocols.
- Understanding of good laboratory practices, safety procedures, and quality requirements.
- Ability to accurately document experiments and maintain data traceability.
- Basic knowledge of pigments, materials, chemistry, or formulation sciences is an advantage.
- Comfortable using digital tools for documentation and reporting.
