Supervisor / Caregiver GFH 80 - 100%Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and the Interior of the Canton of Zurich and is responsible for penal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of offenders and the prevention of recidivism are of particular importance.
The Main Department of Remand Prisons Zurich (UGZ) - one of seven main departments of JuWe - currently operates seven prisons for pre-trial and security detention. Around 300 employees care for more than 700 incarcerated persons. The Horgen prison offers 51 places and is managed as a department of the Limmattal prison.
To complement our team at Horgen prison, we are looking immediately or by arrangement for two committed, open-minded, and humorous personalities. One of the two positions is limited until May 31, 2032, the other position is permanent.
Your tasks
- You accompany, care for, and engage incarcerated persons during their pre-trial detention from entry to release and take on tasks in care, security, and organization
- You interact with incarcerated persons, visitors professionally, respectfully, and appropriately to the situation and act clearly and de-escalating even in challenging situations
- You ensure an orderly daily routine, enforce safety and service regulations, and manage crisis situations prudently
- In the control center, you ensure the safety of employees, inmates, and third parties by operating security, surveillance, and communication systems as well as triggering the security protocol in emergencies
- You coordinate and supervise visiting procedures, receive gifts, and ensure the necessary controls, including X-ray checks
- You take on administrative tasks such as reports and documentation and support the administration within the framework of substitution, especially file management, correspondence, and managing inmate accounts
Your profile
- Completed commercial training (EFZ) or equivalent as well as several years of professional experience, preferably in a comparable activity
- You approach people in a coercive context with a professional attitude, regulated closeness and distance, and the ability to recognize crisis situations early and act in a de-escalating manner
- You are motivated to actively contribute to the development and design of detention conditions
- You are mentally resilient and flexible for shift, night, weekend, and holiday duties
- You have technical understanding and enjoy working with security-relevant systems
- You have very good German skills in spoken and written form; foreign language skills are an advantage
- You are proficient in MS Office
- You are at least 25 years old and have an impeccable record (no relevant entries in the criminal or debt enforcement register)
