About the job
From April to October 2023, we were commissioned to develop a traffic management concept for the implementation of the section in front of the southern tunnel area of the Gubrist Tunnel as part of the expansion of the Northern Bypass Zurich (ANU Lot 1). Due to the volume of traffic, the construction work on the temporary bypass road had to be carried out on one side along the entire length of the construction area. Dividing it into smaller construction sections was not possible from a construction perspective. Tribus examined the traffic management with a "large roundabout" that extended over the cantonal and municipal road network beyond the centre of Weiningen. Various options were used to assess the capacity of the key junctions and the technical feasibility, analyse the traffic impacts, and develop any optimisations and accompanying measures to ensure traffic flow. The use of temporary traffic lights was examined, and the effects (including queue lengths) of the different traffic management regimes at the "Nüsslikreisel" were depicted using a dynamic VISSIM simulation.
Traffic Flow Simulation VISSIM
VISSIM is a simulation software for the microscopic visualisation of traffic flow for all modes of transport and road users. With the help of VISSIM simulations, the capacity of a traffic infrastructure can be demonstrated and optimised.
