The Faculty of Social Sciences and its Department of Sociology are opening an application for a 70% assistant position.

Terms of reference

• Writing a doctoral thesis in sociology on a topic related to the sociology of consumption and sustainability issues (justice, environment, etc.)
• Taking charge of seminars and tutorials (directed work) at bachelor and master levels in sociology (including general sociology courses and specialised courses), supervising and marking exams as well as student follow-up. These activities may include support for master courses given in English
• Active participation in the collective life of the Department of Sociology and the Institute of Sociological Research, and occasional participation in administrative tasks

Required qualifications and skills

The ideal candidate must hold a master’s degree in sociology or social sciences and be able to demonstrate:

• Research work (theses, seminar papers) related to the sociology of consumption
• Skills in qualitative methods
• Demonstrated methodological skills (theses, seminar papers)
• Fluency in written and spoken French and English
• Knowledge of another Swiss national language is an asset
• Ease in relations with students and ability to work in a team
• Ideally experience of mobility during studies

• Good interpersonal skills and relationships with students, ability to work in a team
• Ideally an experience of mobility during the studies
