Job Description
Internal Audit is offering a position of Senior Investigator in its new Investigation Unit team in Geneva.
What is the investigations team doing ?
Investigations are reviews and thorough analysis of incidents that could have a financial or reputational impact on the Bank or have been requested by Senior parties (e.g. ExCo, Board) for other reasons where the independence of the investigator is paramount. The investigation will review the incidents with root cause analysis to determine the reasons leading to the incidents and assess the steps taken by Management, where applicable, to address the incidents. The Investigations Unit will make recommendations and conclusions which will allow Management to make the decisions on what the appropriate actions or consequences would be. Any recommendation provided to Management will be tracked to completion and will be shared with a wider audience if needed. The investigation will be thorough, independent and analytical and will be undertaken with objectivity and impartiality.
Main responsibilities
- Thorough review of single or multiple points of failure to identify root causes of the failure, applying data analytical skills and forensic methods.
- Interact professionally with senior management in private banking and support functions.
- Identify areas for improvement in controls and identify when regulations are not being properly implemented and adhered too.
- Apply sound investigation and internal audit techniques and be able to document conclusions clearly and accurately.
- Adhere to the EFG International Code of Ethics and Business Code of Conduct as well as to professional standards.
- Evaluate risk management, control, and governance effectiveness, recommending improvements.
- Assess control adequacy for compliance with policies and objectives.
- Review established procedures and systems and propose improvements.
- Discuss findings with senior managers and assist in drafting investigation reports.
- Ensure investigation reports are factually accurate, relevant, and balanced.
- Interact with global colleagues and be respectful of cultural differences.
- The role requires independence, integrity, and objectivity. Ability to work alone as well as in teams and effectively deal with management at all levels.
Skills and experience
- 5-8 years investigation/fraud investigation or internal audit experience in either big 4 environment or internal audit function of major private bank in Switzerland.
- Fluency with FINMA regulations. Other jurisdictions a bonus.
- An undergraduate degree combined with a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Internal Auditor or Certified Fraud Examiner qualification.
- A good understanding of the private banking activities, processes and products
- Proven delivery in complex internal audit assignments and investigations, e.g. fraud reviews.
- Strong communicating skills and ability to manage differences of opinion satisfactorily.
- Ability to conduct risk-based investigations and the assessment of the internal control framework.
- Good understanding of the local and group regulatory compliance requirements applicable to private banking.
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills. Ability to speak a second European language will be an advantage.
- Familiarity with Information Technology systems and MS Office applications.
- Ability to travel within Switzerland and internationally (max 25%)
