Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and the Interior of the Canton of Zurich and is responsible for criminal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of offenders, the prevention of recidivism, as well as the detention and preparation of the departure of persons without a valid residence permit are of particular importance.

The Bachtel Correctional Center (VZB) is one of the enforcement institutions of the Canton of Zurich (VEZ) – one of seven main departments of JuWe – and is an institution specialized in open enforcement of custodial and substitute custodial sentences. The VZB offers space for over 90 incarcerated persons.

We are looking for an experienced, committed, and socially competent person for our social service immediately or by arrangement.

Your area of responsibility

• Support and counseling of incarcerated persons in personal as well as factual matters
• Resource-oriented support during enforcement, including accompaniment in the day structure integration enforcement (IVO) if needed
• Activation and promotion of incarcerated persons with special needs in the various structures of the VZB (normal enforcement and special enforcement with individual single settings)
• Preparation of enforcement relaxations (e.g., leave arrangements), enforcement planning, enforcement reports, as well as conditional release
• Close interdisciplinary cooperation within the framework of transition management with internal and external partners
• Support in supervising interns and pre-interns

Your profile

• Completed studies in social work as well as professional experience in dealing with mentally ill and addiction-affected clients
• Strong empathy, assertiveness, and ability to work in a team
• High flexibility and openness to new challenges
• Willingness for continuous professional and personal development to meet the changing demands of modern correctional services
• Very good oral and written German skills as well as knowledge of other languages
• Confident handling of MS365
• Completed basic course or recognized qualification in practical training in social work is an advantage
• Minimum age 25 years and a clean criminal record
