About the job
About the Maths Club
Our goal is to show children that mathematics is much more than just arithmetic in school lessons. Together, we puzzle over unusual problems, explore different solution methods, and discover mathematical ideas that spark curiosity and encourage further thinking. It is not about arriving at the correct answer as quickly as possible. Rather, we aim to foster joy in problem-solving, mathematical creativity, and independent thinking.
The group consists of around 25 motivated pupils from grades 3 to 6. Therefore, we are looking for an additional person to support the course leader and especially to ensure that the children receive sufficient individual attention and assistance.
Prof. Michèle Müller-Itten works at ERP-HSG as an Assistant Professor of Microeconomics. The teaching assistant position is based with her.
- Supporting the course leader during the Maths Club meetings on Friday mornings in Rotmonten from 10:00 to 11:00
- Supervising and assisting pupils in solving mathematical tasks and puzzles
- Encouraging the children through targeted questions and hints without simply providing solutions
- Assisting with the organisation and execution of small mathematical activities and games
- Contributing to the preparation of tasks or individual topics
- Helping with the organisation of the St. Gallen semi-final of the Swiss Mathematics and Logic Championship
- Enjoyment of mathematics, logical thinking, and challenging problems
- Enjoyment of working with children aged approximately 8 to 12 years
- Patience, reliability, and the ability to explain mathematical ideas clearly
- Very good German language skills (the Maths Club is conducted in German)
- Independent and responsible working style
- The position is especially aimed at students of mathematical, scientific, technical, economic, or educational fields.
- Experience working with children, in tutoring, or teaching is an advantage.
