Job Description

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva benefits from a rich multicultural dynamic to which it contributes through its influence within the mandates it has set itself: teaching, research and its partnership with the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG).

The Faculty Histology Service supports research groups in the preparation and histological analysis of their samples. It notably performs paraffin and cryostat sectioning as well as various histological stainings. The Service also makes its equipment available to teams wishing to carry out their work independently, while providing advice and technical support.

To strengthen its team, the Faculty Histology Service is currently seeking a:

Laboratory Technician 2 at 100%

The main mission of the position is to participate in the routine activities of the Faculty Histology Service and to contribute to the development of new immunostaining services.

The recruited person will participate in the development and validation of immunofluorescence protocols, both standard and multiplex, and immunohistochemistry in order to offer users a comprehensive service, from sample preparation to their analysis by bioimaging.

They will also contribute to the characterisation of antibodies developed by the recombinant antibody platform. This project will strengthen synergies between the histology, bioimaging and recombinant antibody platforms and broaden their respective services.

Main tasks:

• Perform services requested by research groups: sample preparation, sectioning, staining and immunostaining
• Develop, optimise and validate immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence protocols
• Welcome and advise service users on immunostaining techniques
• Support the administrative and organisational management of the service
• Ensure the maintenance and upkeep of equipment and contribute to maintaining a high level of service quality

Required qualifications and skills

• Federal Certificate of Competence (CFC) as laboratory technician or equivalent qualification
• 2 to 3 years of experience in histology and immunostaining
• Autonomy and efficiency in work
• Good interpersonal skills
