About the job
The Ballenberg Open-Air Museum houses over 100 historic residential and agricultural buildings from all regions of Switzerland. Each house tells its own story. The staff demonstrate living crafts, tend the fields, gardens, and animals in the museum. They convey the history of rural farming Switzerland, the life and work of people in past centuries. The view of earlier ways of life is full of inspiration for the present and future.
For one of the most attractive museums in Switzerland, we are seeking a Co-Head of Agriculture Department 60% full-year position starting 1 February 2027 or by arrangement.
You have an agricultural education and bring experience in handling farm animals, performing agricultural tasks, and possibly in team leadership. You enjoy working with animals as much as maintaining and caring for the cultural landscape. You are prepared to make an above-average effort during the season (April to October), including weekends. In the winter months, alongside caring for your own animals, forestry and/or maintenance work are central to the role. As a team-oriented and communicative person, you are interested in acquiring broad knowledge about our animals, the historical background of agriculture and the museum, and engaging with our guests. High responsibility, independent working, and a friendly manner are natural to you.
