Head of Department Automotive Engineering 100%The Automotive Engineering Department of the Technical Vocational School Zurich TBZ is the competence centre for the training and further education of automotive and bodywork professions. Around 600 apprentices are taught in basic education, complemented by a further education offer with about 40 students in courses preparing for professional examinations, advanced professional examinations and certificate qualifications.
Starting from the spring semester 2027 or by arrangement, we are looking for a committed and strong leadership personality as Head of Department Automotive Engineering. The role is performed in a co-leadership model. Together with your leadership partner, you bear overall responsibility for the department and shape its strategic, personnel, pedagogical and organisational development.
Your tasks
Your core tasks include, in particular, the personnel management, promotion and development of around 40 teachers, ensuring a high-quality and reliable school operation, as well as the planning, control and responsibility of financial and personnel resources.
In addition, you are responsible for further developing the educational offerings and teaching in close cooperation with the stakeholders of vocational education. Maintaining and expanding cooperation with associations, companies, inter-company training centres and other partners, as well as active participation in the extended school management of the TBZ and shaping school development, complete your range of tasks.
Your profile
You have several years of teaching and leadership experience at secondary level II and ideally bring a broad network in the automotive industry. You know how to lead people, bring together different interests and implement changes purposefully.
A completed university degree (FH, ETH or university) in a field relevant to automotive engineering or a comparable qualification is part of your educational portfolio, as is a teaching diploma for vocational schools (EHB, PHZH or equivalent qualification).
You have either already completed school leadership training or would be willing to complete it promptly.
Proven leadership skills as well as a high level of communication and cooperation skills are also crucial competencies you bring.
