Scientific Staff Member Biodiversity Modelling 80 - 100% (m/f/d)
The research unit Landscape Dynamics investigates patterns and processes at the landscape level based on ecological and anthropogenic influences. Within the FUTURA project, WSL is responsible for modelling the impacts of climate change on terrestrial biodiversity. For this, we are seeking within the Dynamic Macroecology research group, from 1 November 2026 or by agreement, a fixed-term position for

You will develop and use species distribution models based on large, heterogeneous biodiversity datasets. A focus lies on correcting spatial and methodological sampling biases as well as assessing model quality with uneven data availability. You will conduct global biodiversity simulations, compare global and regional projections, and investigate climate and adaptation scenarios. Further tasks include quality assurance, documentation, and scientific publications.
You hold a doctorate in ecology, environmental sciences, biogeography, macroecology, or a related field. You have proven experience in species distribution or biodiversity modelling, correcting spatial sampling biases and model evaluation, integrating large observational datasets from different sources or survey methods, as well as in global or large-scale biodiversity analyses. Additionally, you have solid knowledge especially in R. Experience with marine or terrestrial biodiversity, trait- or trophic-based models, Python, high-performance computing, climate data, or high-resolution environmental modelling is advantageous. You have a strong scientific publication record, work independently, and value interdisciplinary and international collaboration. Very good English skills are required; knowledge of a national language is an advantage.
