With more than 300 beds spread over eight clinics, the HFR Fribourg – Cantonal Hospital is the reference hospital in the canton. The general surgery clinic is recognised by the ISFM as a category A postgraduate training institution in general surgery and category B in vascular surgery. Currently with 55 beds, the clinic records more than 2700 stays and over 3500 interventions each year.
The vascular surgery operative activity covers open and endovascular surgery of the upper and lower limbs, carotid and aortic surgery, amputations and wound treatment, venous surgery and the placement of dialysis vascular access. Patient care is carried out interdisciplinarily, in close collaboration with the radiology and angiology departments. As a regional reference centre in vascular surgery, the clinic handles a large number of emergencies and has medical-technical infrastructure enabling the management of complex cases.
Your tasks
- Perform the full range of operative interventions and conservative treatments in open and endovascular vascular surgery
- Assume co-responsibility for professional development and strengthening of the vascular surgery competence centre
- Participate in the on-call and emergency vascular surgery service
- Actively participate in undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education (category A/B training institution)
Your profile
- ISFM specialist medical title in vascular surgery (or equivalent diploma)
- Doctorate (Dr med)
- Several years of experience in a managerial or senior consultant role within a university clinic or cantonal hospital
- Extensive knowledge of endovascular surgery (mandatory)
- Excellent ability to collaborate interdisciplinarily with medical departments as well as nursing and administrative staff
- Open-mindedness, communication skills and willingness to integrate into an existing team
- Strong interest in undergraduate and postgraduate medical training
- Excellent knowledge of German or French, good knowledge of the other language

The HFR Fribourg – Cantonal Hospital is the cantonal reference hospital and has 300 beds in eight clinics. The General Surgery Clinic is recognised by the SIWF as a category A training centre for surgery and category B for vascular surgery. It currently has 55 beds and records over 2700 hospital stays and more than 3500 procedures annually.
The operative spectrum of vascular surgery includes open and endovascular treatment of the upper and lower extremities, carotid and aortic surgery, amputations and wound care, venous surgery as well as the creation of dialysis accesses. Patient care is interdisciplinary in close collaboration with the radiology and angiology departments. As a regional reference centre for vascular surgery, the clinic handles a high volume of emergencies and has medical-technical infrastructure enabling the care of complex cases.
Your tasks
- Operative and conservative care of the entire spectrum of open and endovascular vascular surgery
- Co-responsibility for the professional development and expansion of the vascular surgery focus
- Participation in the vascular surgery on-call and emergency service
- Active involvement in medical education, training and continuing education (training centre category A/B)
Your profile
- SIWF specialist title in vascular surgery (or equivalent qualification)
- Doctorate (Dr med.)
- Several years of clinical experience as a senior or consultant physician at a university clinic or cantonal hospital
- Sound knowledge of endovascular surgery (mandatory)
- Strong ability to collaborate interdisciplinarily with medical departments as well as nursing and administrative staff
- Openness, communication skills and willingness to integrate into an existing team
- Particular interest in medical education and training
- Very good knowledge of German or French and good knowledge of the other language
