About the job
Connecting art, history and the present – leading a unique museum into its next phase of development.
Between Impressionism, a historic villa and a vibrant cultural venue: the Museum Langmatt in Baden is one of the most important private collections of French Impressionism in Europe. The interplay of art, architecture, park and cultural exchange gives the house a special aura. Due to the retirement of the long-standing incumbent, we are looking for a professionally and personally convincing personality by the end of 2027 as
Director 80 – 100 %
In this key role, you will bear overall responsibility for the Museum Langmatt and develop the house together with the Board of Trustees. You will lead a small team, be responsible for the programme, collection, operations and finances, and enjoy staying close to the topics and implementation in a manageable museum operation. This includes exhibitions, events and mediation, curatorial collection work, collaborations as well as the further development of the pavilion and rooms as places for art, mediation and encounters. You will maintain funding partnerships, secure additional resources and represent Langmatt to the public, politics, media and the professional community.
For this special task, we are looking for an experienced personality who brings together art, people and operations and enjoys leading a museum with a distinctive profile with commitment and foresight. You know museum work from your own experience, have realised exhibitions, worked with collections and co-developed mediation or event formats. A degree in art history or a related field as well as knowledge of European art of the 19th and early 20th centuries, ideally French Impressionism, form a solid professional foundation. Equally important are knowledge of contemporary art, leadership skills, business understanding, networked thinking and a convincing manner with funding partners and sponsors. You communicate confidently in German; very good English skills are required.
Bring your experience, ideas and personality into the next development phase of Langmatt. We look forward to receiving your complete application by 21.10.2026.
