To complete its team, the Medical Directorate is looking for a

Assistant Physician specialising in Geriatrics
(in connection with the Orthopaedics and Traumatology department)
80-100 %

Your mission:

You will hold a key role in developing an innovative clinical activity at the interface of geriatrics, perioperative internal medicine, and orthopaedic surgery. You will carry out clinical, academic, and organisational activities centred around three main areas.

1. Development of the Orthogeriatrics Unit:

• Take medical responsibility and contribute to the development of the orthogeriatrics unit according to a co-management model with the orthopaedics teams.
• Conduct comprehensive geriatric assessments and participate in the development of individualised care plans.
• Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and weekly meetings with medical, nursing, and rehabilitation teams.
• Develop care pathways, protocols, and quality indicators specific to orthogeriatrics.

2. Perioperative Internal Medicine

• Provide internal medicine care for patients hospitalised or operated on in orthopaedic surgery.
• Optimise preoperative assessment, management of comorbidities, and postoperative follow-up.
• Collaborate with orthopaedics teams to develop integrated perioperative medicine.

3. Liaison Geriatrics

• Provide liaison geriatric consultations for hospitalised patients
• Make diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations in collaboration with medical and nursing teams.

Cross-functional missions: You will also participate in:

• Supervision and training of senior residents, assistant physicians, and physicians in training;
• Undergraduate teaching of Bachelor and Master medical students at the University of Fribourg;
• Postgraduate teaching and continuing education.
• Institutional projects, clinical research, and quality improvement projects in orthogeriatrics, perioperative medicine, and liaison geriatrics.

Your profile:

• You hold a federal medical diploma or equivalent
• You have an ISFM specialist title in general internal medicine with an ISFM advanced training title in geriatrics
• You hold a doctorate
• You have at least three years of experience as a senior resident or deputy senior resident
• You have an academic title (teaching and research master and/or Privat-docent) which is an advantage
• You have completed a management course or have experience managing a department, which is an advantage
• You are proficient in French or German with good knowledge of the other language
• You are motivated to contribute to a good working atmosphere and appreciate collegial exchange

Assignment

At the interface between geriatrics, perioperative internal medicine, and orthopaedic surgery, you will hold a key role in developing an innovative clinical activity. Your clinical, academic, and organisational tasks cover three main areas:

1. Development of the Orthogeriatrics Ward

• You will take medical responsibility for the ward and contribute to the further development of orthogeriatrics within a co-management model with the orthopaedics teams.
• You will conduct comprehensive geriatric assessments and participate in the creation of individual care plans.
• You will participate in interdisciplinary medical rounds and weekly meetings with medical teams as well as nursing and rehabilitation teams.
• You will develop specific treatment pathways, protocols, and quality indicators for orthogeriatrics.

2. Perioperative Internal Medicine

• You will ensure internal medicine care for hospitalised patients or those operated on in orthopaedic surgery.
• You will optimise preoperative assessment, management of comorbidities, and postoperative follow-up.
• You will work together with orthopaedics teams to develop integrated perioperative medicine.

3. Geriatric Patient Consultation

• You will provide geriatric consultation appointments for hospitalised patients.
• You will give diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations in collaboration with medical and nursing teams.

Participation in cross-departmental tasks

• You will supervise senior, assistant, and trainee physicians and participate in their training.
• You will teach Bachelor and Master students in Human Medicine at the University of Fribourg.
• You will teach as part of further and continuing education.
• You will participate in hospital projects, clinical research, and quality improvement projects in orthogeriatrics, perioperative medicine, and geriatric patient consultation.

Profile

• Federal medical diploma or equivalent qualification
• FMH specialist title in General Internal Medicine with a SIWF focus in Geriatrics
• Doctorate
• At least three years of experience as senior or deputy senior physician
• Academic title (teaching and research council member and/or Privatdozent) advantageous
• Management training or experience in department leadership advantageous
• German or French with good knowledge of the other language
• Motivation to contribute to a good working atmosphere, enjoyment of collegial exchange
