The Role
As a Viking Resident Historian, you will be a valued member of our Enrichment Team, delivering engaging presentations and discussions that enhance our guests' understanding of the destinations they visit.
You will provide historical context, cultural insights, and destination-focused learning experiences that complement shore excursions and enrich every voyage.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a lecture program during assignments ranging from 3 to 8 weeks aboard one of Viking's award-winning Ocean ships.
- Present destination-focused lectures covering historical events, periods, people, and themes relevant to the itinerary.
- Utilize Viking-provided lecture materials and teaching notes.
- Host 3-4 smaller forum-style discussions on approved topics within your area of expertise.
- Conduct weekly Office Hours sessions for guests.
- Provide scenic cruising commentary when appropriate.
- Accompany selected shore excursions and support local guides with historical context.
- Host guest tables during dinner service.
- Offer walking tours of the Bayeux Tapestry panels featured aboard Viking's Ocean fleet where applicable.
- Act as a knowledgeable and approachable ambassador for the Viking brand.
Who We Are Looking For
Successful candidates will possess:
- A Master's degree or higher, preferably in History or a related discipline.
- Exceptional public speaking and presentation skills.
- The ability to communicate complex subjects with clarity, confidence, and enthusiasm.
- Experience as an educator, lecturer, researcher, author, museum professional, or subject matter expert.
- Strong PowerPoint and general computer skills.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Additional language skills are advantageous.
- A professional, flexible, and guest-focused approach.
- A passion for sharing knowledge and engaging with curious travelers.
- Availability for multiple 3 to 8-week assignments throughout the year.
