About the job
Accessible Doors
Frank Türen AG plans and produces accessible doors made of wood. We are happy to manage all other door specifications for barrier-free construction.

Planning Recommendations for Accessible Doors
According to standard SN 521 500, VST Technical Data Sheet No. 011
- Width 80 cm
The width of accessible doors must not be less than 80 cm. This measurement is based on the width of the wheelchair and the space required for the hands. However, the rule is: the wider the entrance area, passage, and corridor width, the better and easier it is for the wheelchair user.
- Free area of 60 cm
On the door opening side, a free area of 60 cm width next to the door handle is recommended so that the door can be operated without additional manoeuvres.
- Two door viewers
Door viewers must be installed at the appropriate height. The guideline is 115 cm. In households with both wheelchair users and pedestrians, two viewers at different heights make sense.
- Door opener at 85 to 110 cm
Door opener systems must be placed at the appropriate height, 85 to 110 cm, in an easily accessible location.
- Threshold-free
Wherever possible, threshold-free doors should be installed. If thresholds are unavoidable, they should not be higher than 2.5 cm.
- Door fittings at 85 cm
Door fittings can be mounted at the usual height of 100 cm. However, wheelchair users prefer fittings at a height of 85 cm.
- Grab handles beside the door
For doors with door closers, grab handles on the opening side on the door frame or on the wall immediately next to the door have proven effective.
- Easy opening and closing
Opening and closing doors must be possible with minimal force.
