Specialist for Transmission Network Optimisation (80-100%) - 1643

Ensuring electricity in Switzerland

In this exciting position, you will independently drive the expansion of functionalities in the area of energy management and decision support systems for real-time operation and advance planning of the transmission network. You will encounter the following tasks:

• Further development of the business architecture, decision support, and automated decision-making in power and voltage control
• Further development of applications in power and voltage control (Power Flow, Contingency Analysis, Optimal Power Flow): conceptualisation, prototyping of network calculation and optimisation algorithms, creation of technical specifications and testing
• Business-side maintenance (including on-call duty) of the applications: error analysis, algorithm tuning, user feedback evaluation and model adjustments
• Subproject responsibility, application ownership and close collaboration with various specialists

For this versatile position, we are looking for a personality with high motivation and an independent, analytical working style. Additionally, you bring the following:

• Degree in engineering sciences (e.g. electrical engineering, energy technology, control engineering, operations research or comparable)
• Open to interdisciplinary activities

Solution-oriented personality with a pragmatic and implementation-strong working style

• Experience in modelling, simulation and optimisation of power grids
• Proficient in handling mathematical optimisation algorithms, data analysis methods and programming skills (Python or comparable)
• Good interaction with application users and stakeholders
• Very good English skills, good German skills are an advantage

The Business Unit Market is the operational hub of Swissgrid. The experienced professionals are responsible for grid operation and markets for system services. They also operate congestion management at the Swiss borders and actively shape the electricity market development in Switzerland and Europe. At the heart of the Swiss electricity supply, the Swissgrid Control control centre, various teams monitor and control power flows in the grid around the clock.

Our System Decision Solutions team is responsible for the development and operation of applications for operational decision support, in close collaboration with the internal IT.
