The position is attached to the Diagnostic Department . Comprising nine medical services, its mission is to provide diagnoses, therapeutic products, therapeutic procedures, and specialised clinical consultations of high medical quality, within the best possible timeframes and at an acceptable cost, to guide patient care and contribute to therapeutic decisions and actions.
The clinical pathology service ensures a diagnostic clinical activity , mainly on tissues from biopsies or surgical specimens. This activity helps guide patient care and significantly contributes to therapeutic decisions. Through performing medical autopsies and its research and development activities, the clinical pathology service participates in understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms involved in lesion processes. The service also has missions of research and education .
Job Description
The cytology laboratory offers a versatile activity combining cytological techniques (preparation and staining of samples) as well as analysis and diagnosis of preparations: gynaecological screening (in liquid medium) and diagnostic procedures (conventional and liquid-based smears).
As a cytotechnologist (biomedical laboratory technician level 2), you handle exfoliative and non-exfoliative cytology samples, both gynaecological and non-gynaecological, under the supervision of the cytopathologist.
You ensure the smooth running of the laboratory respecting the working conditions of other members of the cytology unit and assist the clinician performing a cytopuncture (under medical imaging or other), you carry out the spreading and staining of the collected material and check the cytological samples on site to inform the clinician of the quality of the samples.
You are versatile with other functions of the unit (slide preparation and staining laboratory, cytological technique).
You perform primary screening of conventional and monolayer smears, gynaecological and non-gynaecological, establish diagnoses, and carry out coding and entry of cytological reports using the available computer tool and write cytological reports.
You autonomously validate normal gynaecological reports without abnormalities or neoplastic lesions and conduct bibliographic, technical, and scientific research for diagnostic discussions and presentations.
You participate in the training of cytotechnologist trainees and pathologist doctors, both internal and external to the HUG, as well as in internal or external seminars and national and international congresses.
You carry out routine scientific work within your qualification and participate in the development of new diagnostic techniques.
Qualifications
You must hold a diploma as a biomedical laboratory technician and a diploma from the Swiss School of Cytology or equivalent training (International Academy of Cytology, national diploma, etc.).
Experience in screening and cytological diagnosis within a cytology laboratory is required.
A good knowledge of the requirements of standard 15189 and its application and/or experience in digital cytology would be an asset.

Your interpersonal skills enable you to work easily in a team and integrate well.
Additional Information
You will work irregular hours and are required to participate in the rotating schedule for opening and closing the laboratory or laboratories as well as on-call duty (night and public holidays).
