Particles and Aerosols Laboratory | From 1 August 2026 or by arrangement
The Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology METAS is the reference institute for measurements and measuring instruments in Switzerland. To ensure that a litre is always a litre (e.g. when filling up with petrol), METAS carries out calibrations, conformity assessments and consultations for industry, research and administration. Measurement accuracy creates trust, especially at the social and political level, and is essential in many areas: road traffic, electricity billing, time transmission, measurements in the environmental and health sectors, etc. At METAS, different fields of expertise come together and complement each other – and have done so since 1862.
Your new challenge
- Development of field calibration procedures for in situ instruments measuring aerosol light absorption.
- Close collaboration with air quality monitoring networks and industry partners. Organisation of field measurement campaigns.
- Independent execution of laboratory experiments, including data analysis.
- Publication of research results and presentation at scientific conferences.
- Acquisition of third-party funding by writing own research proposals.
Your profile
- PhD in physics, chemistry or engineering and proven experience in aerosol sciences, with a focus on black carbon measurements.
- Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research and hands-on approach in the laboratory
- Outgoing, flexible and team-orientated personality who tackles new challenges with ease
- Sound command of English (oral and written) and basic knowledge of German or French.
