Job description
The Faculty of Law and the Global Studies Institute (GSI) are offering a 100% (50%-50%) PhD assistant position under the direction of Professor Bernhard Sträuli for his teaching of general criminal law, delivered in the first year of the Bachelor of Law and within the framework of the Bachelor in International Relations (BARI).
The assistant will also be required to perform certain tasks related to other teachings, according to the needs of the department and the GSI.
The job description includes supervising students, assisting with the preparation of course materials, assisting the teacher with research, invigilating and marking exams, participating in the activities of the Department of Criminal Law and the GSI (conferences, seminars, etc.), and the assistant's own research.
Title and required skills
Candidates must have obtained a Master’s degree in law from a Swiss university and demonstrate a strong interest in research in criminal law or criminal procedure.
Those who will obtain their Master’s degree in the August-September 2026 examination session may apply, providing a certificate of success in place of the diploma.
At least passive knowledge of German is a condition of employment.
Candidates must intend to write a doctoral thesis in criminal law or criminal procedure.

The candidate will be hired on a two-year contract, renewable for two successive periods, respectively of two years and one year. The maximum duration of the assistant position is five years. The first year constitutes a probationary period, during which the employment relationship may be terminated with a three-month notice period to the end of a month.
