Social Worker at Winterthur Prison 60 - 80%The Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and Home Affairs of the Canton of Zurich and is responsible for penal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of offenders and the prevention of recidivism are of particular importance.
The main department of Zurich Remand Prisons (UGZ) - one of eight main departments of JuWe - currently operates seven prisons for provisional detention, investigative and security custody. As part of the Zurich Remand Prisons (UGZ), Winterthur Prison (GFW) takes on central tasks in the area of detention without sentence. The focus is on investigative and security custody as well as the admission of persons in provisional detention. A total of 101 detention places are available for this purpose.
For the Social Services department at Winterthur Prison, we are looking for a responsible, dynamic and team-oriented personality starting 1 October 2026.
Your tasks
- Individual and independent casework
- Resource-oriented counselling and support of incarcerated persons in relevant areas of life such as housing situation, finances and social insurance
- Planning and coordination of stay arrangements, reintegration and transition management (e.g. connection to economic social assistance, mediation to work partners and external agencies, transfer to penal and measure enforcement)
- Interdisciplinary collaboration with internal departments such as Medical Service, Supervisory and Care Staff, Psychiatric-Psychological Service, as well as with external agencies such as criminal investigation authorities, probation and enforcement services, social welfare offices, social insurance, KESB etc.
- Further development of the Social Services area in investigative custody
- Transfer of the pilot project "Model Trial Investigative Custody Canton Zurich / Canton Bern" into regular operation
Your profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a comparable degree
- Ideally professional experience in correctional services or working with delinquent persons
- Independent, reliable, responsible and careful working style
- High social competence and psychological resilience as well as empathy and assertiveness
- Flexibility and enjoyment of interdisciplinary collaboration
- Confident German language skills in spoken and written form, knowledge of additional languages is an advantage, good IT user skills
