Materials Specialist in the Field of Heat Treatment (m/f/d)

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

In this exciting position, you will take responsibility for optimising the mechanical properties of metal components through controlled heat treatment processes such as annealing, quenching, tempering, and carburising. As a technical expert, you will ensure that the manufactured components meet the required product specifications regarding hardness, strength, ductility, and dimensional accuracy.

Your tasks in detail:

  • Development, validation, and optimisation of heat treatment processes such as batch, induction, vacuum, and nitriding procedures
  • Ensuring the required mechanical properties and quality standards of metal components
  • Analysis and rectification of process deviations such as distortions, crack formations, or hardness deviations
  • Definition and implementation of corrective and improvement measures to stabilise processes
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, industry norms, and customer-specific requirements
  • Creation and maintenance of technical documentation, specifications, and work instructions
  • Close collaboration with production and engineering to optimise manufacturing and heat treatment processes
  • Conducting and evaluating metallurgical analyses and technical testing procedures is an advantage

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING

  • Completed vocational training and/or a degree (university/technical college) in materials science, metallurgy, materials engineering, or a related field
  • At least 10 years of experience with heat treatment processes, in a foundry or a metallurgical laboratory. Experience with various furnaces (vacuum, atmosphere, induction furnaces) and testing equipment (microscopes, hardness testers)
  • Profound knowledge of physical metallurgy (phase transformations, TTT/CCT diagrams) and the ability to interpret customer drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of relevant ISO standards and SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern)
  • Confident use of MS Office and SAP
  • Fluent German and English skills, both spoken and written
  • Strong team spirit, quick comprehension, high initiative, and resilience
