Database Performance Engineer

We are currently seeking an experienced Database Performance Engineer to work for a banking client of ours in Basel on an exciting project developing and operating on a data platform. This project focuses on enhancing the platform’s capabilities to support Advanced Analytics and improve operational efficiency

The role requires English language skills, and candidates to be based in Switzerland, with one day per week in the office. Key Responsibilities:

• Analyse current ingestion and transformation workloads to identify performance bottlenecks
• Assess the continued use of Citus in the set-up, including a comparison of its benefits and limitations versus native PostgreSQL features
• Conduct targeted experiments comparing Columnar and regular row-based tables
• Query performance for large analytical workloads
• General performance optimisation including Query planning and execution, Index usage and tuning parallelisation

Desirable Requirements:

Strong background in PostgreSQL Expert in SQL and Data Modelling Experience designing and interpreting performance experiments Hands-on experience with Citus, including columnar storage is a plus

The role offers the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement and is a contract until the end of the year, which will likely be extended until the end of Q2 next year
