Thoratec Switzerland GmbH is a part of Abbott Laboratories, one of the world's leading manufacturers of medical devices. We are the global market leader for implantable and extracorporeal blood pumps based on magnetic levitation technology. Our life-saving systems, which we develop and manufacture in Zurich, are used for acute and long-term therapy in patients with severe heart diseases.
Our location in the heart of the city of Zurich has around 130 employees in the areas of development and production of the Centri- Mag S ystem and the HeartMate motor.
Department Overview
Research & Development Engineering
The Research & Development Engineering team focuses on managing and maintaining the product pipeline, supplying the market with innovative solutions that help improve the quality of life of our customers. Typical projects last between six months and multiple years, offering an interesting mix of width and depth.
Manufacturing Engineering
The Manufacturing Engineering team covers all aspects of manufacturing our high-end products. This entails a wide variety of activities, such as test equipment development, cost saving initiatives, manufacturability improvements, and non-conformance investigations.
Quality Engineering
The Quality Engineering team has the very interesting role of facilitating the link between all external requirements by regulatory agencies, their interpretation of internal process requirements, and the implementation thereof. The navigation in these various fields require a wide range of lateral thinking as well as creative problem-solving skills.
