PH Zurich actively shapes education, school and teaching of today and tomorrow in teaching and research. The Secondary Level I department is responsible for the training of teachers at secondary level I. It currently offers four master’s degree programmes as well as subject extensions that impart professional competences for teaching at secondary level.
Practical vocational training is a core element of the studies for prospective teachers. From the first weeks of study, students gain insights into the professional everyday life at public schools in the canton of Zurich and take on increasing responsibility in designing lessons during their studies. PH Zurich and the school field pursue a common goal. They train teachers who perform well in the complex system "school". Further information on the Cooperation School 2.0 model can be found here .
- Supervision and assessment of students within the framework of practical vocational training
- Conducting teaching events with general didactic content
- Lesson observation and assessment of teaching quality
- Conducting pre- and post-lesson discussions
- Assessment of students’ professional suitability
- Expert activity in practical vocational diploma examinations
- Participation in the further development of practical vocational training
- Close cooperation with the practice management of a cooperation school
- Collaboration with other mentors and practice teachers
- Completed university degree (Master’s degree) in educational sciences, in a reference discipline of secondary level or equivalent qualification
- Teaching diploma for public school level (preferably secondary level)
- At least four years of teaching experience at secondary level as a class teacher
- Experience as a school principal is an advantage
- University didactic competences
- Strong social and communication skills in working with students and in contact with the school field
- Independent and responsible way of working
- Ability to cooperate, role awareness, flexibility and resilience
