Assistant Physician in Genetic Medicine
The Genetic Medicine Service is seeking an assistant physician at a workload of 80% to 100%, to join its team and train within the FMH curriculum in genetic medicine. The starting date is planned for 1 November 2026 or 1 May 2027.
Context
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research, and education.
The Genetic Medicine Service brings together clinical and biological genetics activities on the CHUV site. The medical team currently consists of a full professor, head of service, two senior physicians, three senior registrars, two assistant physicians, and three genetic counsellors.
The Service welcomes patients suspected or diagnosed with a genetic disease, as well as individuals with a family member affected by a genetic disease. Physicians and genetic counsellors assess with the patient the indication for genetic testing to confirm a diagnosis and discuss the implications of such testing for the patient and their family members.
Consultations are also offered to healthy individuals who are concerned about their risk of developing a known genetic disease in their family and/or the risk of passing it on to their offspring.
The medical team provides consultations in various fields, including prenatal and neonatal genetics, paediatrics, metabolic diseases, oncogenetics, and adult genetics, in collaboration with different CHUV departments, notably neurogenetics, cardiogenetics, and nephrogenetics.
Genetic medicine is constantly evolving and requires close interaction between clinical and laboratory activities. With teams gathered on the same site, high-throughput genetic sequencing analyses are discussed weekly. You will benefit from progressive support by the team, gain autonomy, and participate in the innovative activities of the Service throughout your FMH training in genetic medicine.
Mission
- You provide genetic medicine consultations to individuals presenting or likely to present a genetic disease or a genetic predisposition to a rare or common disease
- You contribute to establishing an accurate diagnosis based on clinical examination and laboratory analyses
- You inform patients about appropriate medical management and propose personalised preventive measures when indicated
- You participate directly in the care of patients and their families, under medical supervision
- You handle administrative tasks related to the position, including writing consultation reports, insurance requests and reports, as well as billing
- You participate in the unit’s and Service’s clinical meetings and seminars.
Profile
- You hold a Swiss federal medical diploma or an equivalent foreign qualification recognised by MEBEKO
- You have proficiency in French, both spoken and written, at least at B2 level; a certificate is required
- Knowledge of other languages is an asset
- You appreciate working in a multidisciplinary team
- You demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility.
