The Head of Manufacturing Engineering & Maintenance is a strategic leader responsible for the reliability and lifecycle management of manufacturing assets. This role oversees Calibration & Metrology Engineering, Manufacturing Maintenance, Reliability Engineering, Production/System Owner Engineering, and Shutdown Planning & Scheduling. Key responsibilities support critical operations, including fractionation, bulk production, and packaging, while ensuring equipment readiness and compliance with regulatory standards in the biopharmaceutical sector. The position also requires strong skills in labour relations to foster collaboration within a unionized workforce.

Job Purpose
- Direct all aspects of manufacturing engineering and maintenance, including technical support, project management, emergency response, on-call, troubleshooting and corrective, preventive/predictive maintenance
- Ensure facilities and equipment are designed, operated and maintained in compliance with cGMP, Health Authorities (i.e. FDA), EHS
- Drives execution of qualification plans, risk analysis, metrology, data integrity and general GMP issues
- Lead the planning, budgeting, execution and commissioning of major capital projects, facility expansions, and technology upgrades
- Champion asset lifecycle management, reliability engineering and implementation
- Oversees sites workshop operations
- Develop, communicate and execute an engineering and maintenance strategy
- Lead transformation initiatives, including digitalization, advanced automation, sustainability and adoption of cutting-edge manufacturing technologies
- Supports the development and implementation of multi-year strategic plans, capital investment roadmaps and operational readiness programs for all global site
- Lead the sites manufacturing engineering and maintenance organization
- Oversee deviation management, investigation of deviations and establishment of corrective and preventive actions plus develop, monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for engineering and maintenance
- Represent the local manufacturing engineering and maintenance function in regulatory inspections, audit readiness
- Champion the use of digital tools and data analytics (e.g., SAP, Trackwise, FMS, Ariba, Power BI, Smart Sheet, Tableau) and implement CSL Operating System, Six Sigma, Lean
- Conducts regular GEMBAS
- Oversee the management of GMP/non-GMP facility systems
- Manage relationships with external service providers, contractors and vendors
- Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, IT and other departments
- Engage with global and regional leadership
- Lead, mentor and develop a diverse, cross-functional team
- Oversees assigned cost centres, monitors performances and acts on trends
- Develops budgets for OpEx and headcounts
Your Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical) required, a master’s preferred
- Minimum of ten years’ experience in the pharmaceutical, food, or chemical process industry
- At least five years of technical management or leadership experience
- Significant expertise in GMP/non-GMP manufacturing assets related to pharmaceutical production
- Expertise in sterile manufacturing, bulk production and finishing and packaging operations of (bio) pharmaceuticals
- Experience managing union and non-union workforces
- Advanced skills in facility management systems (Trackwise, SAP, FMS, Ariba, DCMS) and digital tools (MS Project, Excel, Power BI, Smart Sheet, Tableau)
- Knowledge of Six Sigma/Lean principles
- Financial acumen in managing multimillion-dollar budgets
- Experience with global health authorities’ inspections, audits and regulatory agencies
