Role:

You think in packets, paths, and peerings and want to understand why traffic flows exactly as it does. This curiosity is exactly what is needed in this position. As a Network Engineer Routing & Security, you actively shape a demanding network and security landscape in the carrier environment. You switch between architecture, customer projects, and tricky fault analysis. A hands-on mentality is required here, from patch cables to routing policies.

Responsibilities:

• You analyse persistent network faults in 3rd-level support using packet captures and routing analyses and get to the root cause of every problem

• You build and reliably operate routing architectures with Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) as well as Layer-2 and Layer-3 services based on Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)

• You design VPN, NAT, and ACL solutions for customer environments and internal systems and configure firewalls, routers, and switches

• Furthermore, you accompany data centre projects from cabling to coupling data centres and integrate new locations into the existing architecture

• You plan changes, migrations, and firmware upgrades and conduct assessments as well as network audits

• Additionally, you keep an eye on traffic flows, capacities, and performance and specifically develop the core and access infrastructure further

Qualifications:

• You bring several years of experience in network and security engineering, preferably at least 3 years in the service provider environment

• You move confidently in complex Layer-2 and Layer-3 networks and are well versed in IPv6, IPv4, TCP/IP as well as network segmentation, link aggregation, VLAN, trunking, and STP/RSTP

• Routing tables and peering concepts are familiar to you, and you have already practically implemented MPLS services

• In addition, you have solid knowledge of remote access and site-to-site VPN, NAT, and firewalls as well as high availability, redundancy, and failover

• You approach troubleshooting in a structured manner, use Wireshark and logs purposefully, and have experience in data centre networking across multiple locations

• Ideally, you are also familiar with hardware from Fortinet, Extreme, Cisco, Ruckus, or Brocade, communicate confidently in German, and have no difficulty exchanging technical information in English
