The Directorate of Infrastructure & Operations is responsible for the development of the University of Basel's real estate portfolio and ensures smooth operation as well as efficient maintenance of the infrastructure. It provides a sustainable and forward-looking real estate strategy aligned with user needs, with corresponding implementation planning in consultation with the supporting cantons, manages large construction projects owned by the university, and develops real estate projects with the supporting cantons and investors. Furthermore, the Directorate of Infrastructure & Operations is responsible for major IT projects and ensures a cost-efficient procurement strategy.
Within the Building Technology and Operations area of Campus Services Petersplatz, you are responsible for the caretaking and technical caretaking of selected properties and technical systems, primarily in the area of ventilation / refrigeration, ensuring that teaching and research at the University of Basel can proceed smoothly. In addition to your all-rounder skills, your in-depth knowledge in ventilation and refrigeration is particularly sought after.

Additional Tasks
- You monitor and control technical systems and coordinate with users as necessary.
- You carry out caretaking tasks in properties.
- You conduct inspections of technical systems.
- You make fine adjustments to systems based on analyses in the GLS.
- You replenish consumables as needed.
- You maintain system documentation, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- You supervise and commission maintenance work on external and façade areas.
Fault and Damage Management
- You record and rectify damages, defects and faults, clarify priorities and responsibilities, and initiate measures to prevent damage.
- In case of danger, you initiate immediate measures to prevent personal, material and economic damage.
Coordination and Service
- You coordinate and supervise work by external companies.
- You carry out small orders, such as furniture installations, assembly work or minor repairs.
Additional Tasks
- You assist in monitoring and controlling other technical or safety-related systems as well as in acceptance and commissioning of systems and projects.
- You record energy data (electricity, water, gas, compressed air, etc.).
- You independently carry out moves of up to 5 workstations in coordination with internal organisational units and support larger moves.
- You are part of the emergency organisation in selected buildings.
- You assist with stock management, building operations (access media, internal mail, minor transports, waste disposal) and university events.
- You carry out winter clearance work (clearing and salting) as needed.
Your Profile
Education and Experience
Expertise
Advantageous
Personality
- You have completed technical training in building technology (ventilation / refrigeration). Alternatively, you have training as a maintenance specialist EFA in the field of building and facility technology, or several years of professional experience in technical building management.
- You have at least 5 years of professional experience in technical building equipment (ventilation / refrigeration).
- Practical experience with ventilation and refrigeration systems is required.
Expertise
- You have good knowledge of technical building equipment, especially in ventilation and refrigeration technology.
- You understand technical contexts and system functions and analyse faults systematically.
- You are familiar with preventive and corrective maintenance.
- You handle technical documentation, schematics, operating instructions and system plans confidently.
- You have good MS Office skills.
Advantageous
- Certified Caretaker
- Knowledge in building automation / MSR
- Special permits for work on refrigeration systems
- Experience with CAFM systems
