Job Description

Integration Delegation

In collaboration with the Faculties, Interfaculty Centres and Administrative Services, the Integration Delegation of the University of Geneva has the primary objective of implementing institutional coordination in favour of integration at the University of Geneva.

Academic Horizon Programme

Since 2016, the University of Geneva has opened its doors to migrants and refugees who had to interrupt their studies in their country of origin, or were unable to start them due to exile. Named Academic Horizon, this programme was launched in partnership with the Office for Integration and Citizenship of the Canton of Geneva (BIC), and placed under the responsibility of the UNIGE Integration Delegation. It is now recognised as a measure of the Swiss Integration Agenda (AIS) and also benefits from the support of several private foundations.

Academic Horizon contributes to strengthening the academic and professional integration of refugees and other populations with similar needs. The programme offers a bridge enabling participants to meet the admission requirements of one of the higher education institutions in the Canton of Geneva: the University of Geneva (UNIGE), one of the Universities of Applied Sciences (HES-SO), or the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID). It is structured into four dimensions: academic, social and professional support; access to university teaching as an auditor; a "Language and Integration" course to reach the required level in French; an Academic Horizon community centred on a mentoring programme and collective activities for participants.

Within this role, the post holder is tasked with:

Required Qualifications and Skills

Basic education and professional experience required

• University degree or University of Applied Sciences diploma or equivalent training
• 1 to 3 years’ experience in one or more of the following fields: youth and/or adult education, professional integration, social work, migration;

Specific knowledge useful for the position

• Excellent knowledge of the socio-economic fabric and the Geneva and Swiss education system as well as training support measures;
• Very good knowledge of university and applied sciences pathways;
• Very good knowledge of issues and legal and regulatory frameworks related to asylum, migration and integration;
• Fluency in French and English (C1 level), spoken and written, with strong writing skills in both languages, other languages desirable;
• Strong writing skills and ease in human contact;
• Intercultural sensitivity;
• Good listening skills, tact and empathy, ability to adapt quickly to very diverse interlocutors;
• Organisational skills, analytical and synthetic thinking, negotiation skills;
• Responsiveness and creativity in problem-solving;
• Strong ability to work in a team as well as independently;
• Flexibility and good stress resistance;
• Good knowledge of common office software tools
