Job description
Reporting directly to the Foundation Board as well as to the Secretary General of the University of Geneva, the future Secretary General FUNIGE & Head of the UNIGE development unit will have two main missions :
1. Management of the Foundation for the University of Geneva:
- Ensure the proper institutional, administrative and strategic functioning of FUNIGE
The Foundation for the University of Geneva (FUNIGE), created in March 2025, will strengthen the impact of the University of Geneva (UNIGE) in research, teaching and services to the city. This private foundation operates on a non-profit basis. It aims to mobilise additional resources to support the institution's growth in fulfilling its missions and to finance ambitious projects that exceed the ordinary budget capacity of the University.
It is administered by a Foundation Board chaired by the Rector of UNIGE, whose members, both internal and external, serve on a voluntary basis.
2. Head of the UNIGE development unit
- Ensure the management of the UNIGE development unit, whose mission is particularly to support entities and members of the university community in preparing and structuring their fundraising approaches, without excluding fundraising for the institution itself.
The development unit acts as an internal support and advisory function, particularly benefiting researchers, for identified projects.

Profile sought
With a strong ability to work both independently and in a network, the sought candidate stands out for excellent analytical and synthesis skills, as well as great ease in writing. Organised, flexible and possessing excellent interpersonal skills, he/she adopts behaviour perfectly suited to different contact audiences in all circumstances. Versatile and motivated by a genuine interest in teamwork, he/she knows how to operate effectively in demanding environments and demonstrate good stress resistance.
Benefiting from a very good knowledge of institutional functioning, notably the legal framework and procedures, the candidate also has a fine understanding of political realities at cantonal and federal levels. Mastery of French and English is necessary, German is an asset. Finally, he/she has knowledge of the following audiences: university community, foundations, philanthropists, companies or associations engaged in philanthropy, public authorities, media, international organisations, umbrella organisations of foundations and associations in Switzerland.
Basic education and required professional experience
• University education, Master level
• Postgraduate training desirable
• Professional experience of 5 to 10 years
