Intern - Database Administration & Observability Specialist (Foglight / Elastic)
As part of strengthening database supervision and deploying a centralised observability platform, the DBA team is looking for an intern to support a strategic project around Foglight (database monitoring) and its integration with the Elastic platform used bank-wide.
This internship offers hands-on exposure to critical banking environments, modern supervision technologies, and a cross-functional project involving several IT teams (DBA, Systems, Security, Observability).
The intern will assist the DBA team in monitoring, coordinating, deploying, and documenting the Foglight project, as well as its integration with the Elastic observability platform.
The internship combines:
Functional project management,
Guided technical implementation,
Communication and documentation,
Discovery of best practices in banking supervision.
YOUR MISSION
1. Management and coordination of the Foglight project
Participate in monitoring the overall Foglight & Elastic schedule.
Organise and coordinate meetings with:
DB technology referents within the DBA team,
Systems, Security, and Observability teams.
Prepare minutes, tracking tables, and progress reports.
Contribute to the smooth flow of information between teams.
2. Implementation of Foglight supervision
Guided by DBA experts, the intern will participate in:
Adding Test / UAT / Production environments in Foglight.
Validating the collected metrics for the different DBMS.
Creating high-level health dashboards by technology.
Defining and configuring relevant alerts.
Integrating with ServiceNow for automatic incident creation.
Integrating with Elastic for forwarding supervision metrics.
3. Documentation and structuring
Write and maintain project documentation.
Produce functional documentation of the Foglight → Elastic integration.
Create user guides and internal procedures for IT teams.
4. Support for internal training
Prepare training materials (presentations, guides).
Contribute to organising and ensuring the smooth running of internal training sessions on Foglight and Elastic.
5. Communication and project visibility
Prepare official internal communications related to the project.
Update Confluence / Teams spaces.
Participate in communication around observability topics within the bank.
Specific missions – Elastic Observability
Gather and formalise needs for metrics, alerts, and dashboards in Elastic.
Functionally describe Foglight → Elastic data flows.
Coordinate exchanges between the DBA and Observability teams.
Monitor the progress of integration carried out by expert teams.
Consolidate alert needs (priorities FATAL / HIGH).
Participate in supervising the execution of automated jobs:
Script review (VisualCron, crontab),
Adapting notifications to Elastic,
Creating an execution tracking dashboard,
Gradual removal of email notifications.
Expected deliverables
Project schedule and progress dashboard.
Complete documentation for Foglight & Elastic Observability.
Operational supervision of the 4 DBMS via Foglight.
Internal training materials.
Internal communications ready for distribution.
End-of-internship summary report.
YOUR PROFILE
Recent or ongoing education (Bachelor or Master) in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or equivalent.
Strong interest in databases, supervision, observability, and complex IT environments.
Basic knowledge appreciated:
Databases (SQL, DB concepts),
Systems (Linux/Windows),
Monitoring or observability tools (a plus).
Comfortable with documentation, written and oral communication.
Rigour, organisation, curiosity, and a collaborative spirit.
Residence in Switzerland or willingness to relocate there.
