Deputy Director

Take overall school responsibility: You support the director in a demanding staff function, prepare matters and decision-making bases for the school management and represent them in their absence. Together you are responsible for the quality management of BFS Basel.

Assume professional leadership: As a member of the school management, you actively shape the strategic direction of the school and the development of teaching. You coordinate cross-departmental projects and implement them independently with the persons professionally subordinate to you.

Shape innovative development: You identify the need for further training in the organisation, provide appropriate offers and promote internal exchange as well as networking in the region, with vocational schools throughout Switzerland and other partners in vocational education.

Teach practically: You teach young people with enthusiasm. You complement your school management activities (70-80%) with teaching in basic and/or further vocational education and thus remain close to the learners, the teachers and everyday school life.

Experience: You have experience in leading and managing school development processes and bring several years of teaching practice. Sound knowledge in classroom management, competence orientation and digitality in teaching complement your profile.

Personality: You act responsibly, appreciatively and clearly. You structure complex issues, connect stakeholders, are team-oriented and drive school development digitally savvy, pragmatically and with strong implementation skills.

Education: You have a university degree or an equivalent qualification as well as a pedagogical qualification at secondary level II. Further training in school development and quality management is desirable or to be completed soon.

Language: You communicate confidently in spoken and written German. Precise formulations, target group-appropriate communication and a convincing appearance are natural for you.

The Secondary Schools and Vocational Education division of the Department of Education Basel-Stadt is responsible for a wide range of educational, advisory and support services at secondary level II. It is committed to a high professional quality of teaching at grammar schools, FMS, bridging programmes and vocational schools. In addition, it also supports higher vocational education and adult education offers and assists young people and adults in their career planning. This work makes an important contribution to the educational landscape and the promotion of skilled workers in Basel-Stadt.

The Vocational School Basel, with its around 170 employees, is a centre for vocational education in the Basel region with 12 professions in the areas of retail, hotel and domestic services, fashion and design as well as social professions. In addition to pre-vocational and basic vocational education, BFS Basel offers a comprehensive range of vocational further education, higher vocational education courses and public courses in textile crafts. Furthermore, we run a training workshop for clothing design, where around 30 learners complete their basic vocational training.
