The Appenzell Ausserrhoden Hospital Network, with the acute hospital in Herisau and the Psychiatric Centre AR in Herisau, ensures extended basic medical care for the population in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden and is also the first point of contact for a large part of the population in the surrounding region. Both locations are relevant for care within the canton and beyond.
We are looking for
In the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, under the nursing management of Mr Sven Lang, Ms Elke Hintermayer is seeking to strengthen the team from 1 August 2026 or by arrangement with a reception staff member for a workload of 35-50%.
Your tasks
- Reception, care and admission of patients and guests
- Operation of the telephone switchboard and competent provision of information
- General administrative tasks (patient changes, case openings, inpatient admissions, laboratory cases, day patients, outpatient preliminary discussions, reservations, etc.), vehicle and room reservations
- Distribution and dispatch of mail and parcels
- Receipt and handover of mail and laboratory orders
- Cash management, managing note/coin stock, monthly/year-end closing and provision of funds
- Billing of medication shipments and postal dispatches
- Recording patient discharges and administrative tasks in the event of deaths
- Releasing telephone lines for patients
- Managing various expenses (stamps, batteries, copy paper, parking permits, birthday cards, employee benefits, etc.) and keys (bicycle, chapel, vehicles, etc.)
- Collaboration with triage / patient administration / IT regarding admissions/discharges, reservations, support tickets, etc.
- Execution of individual tasks
Your profile
- A completed education in office communication, hospitality or a similar commercial training.
- Several years of professional experience in a comparable position, ideally with direct customer contact
- Knowledge in managing patient data according to data protection regulations.
- Confident use of office software (e.g. MS Office), clinic software and terminals for managing patient data.
- Flawless German in spoken and written form, additionally English or another foreign language is an advantage.
- Experience working at reception, in customer service or at a front desk is an advantage.
- High empathy, sensitivity and respectful communication
- Maintaining confidentiality and sensitive handling of patient data and personal information
- Friendly, professional and patient personality who remains calm even in stressful moments.
- Responsible person with a factual and pragmatic working style who can coordinate several tasks simultaneously
- Team player able to self-reflect and take appropriate self-care measures.
- Sensitivity and ability to respond to diverse needs and cultural particularities
- Resilient and balanced personality with high commitment and flexibility (no small children anymore)
