In a nutshell
The Directorate for Economic Policy monitors national and international economic developments, identifies the need for economic policy action, and analyzes the macroeconomically relevant legislation of the federal government. From this, it derives possible measures of the federal government.
The department for growth and competition policy analyzes long-term economic development, the foundations for productivity growth, and other success factors of a prosperous economic location. It is also responsible for the competitive framework conditions, for example, through the further development of the cartel and internal market laws.
The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) is the federal government's competence center for all core issues of economic and labor market policy and belongs to the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (WBF). It promotes international market opening for goods, services, and investments. To reduce poverty, SECO is involved in economic development cooperation. It plans economic and trade policy measures in favor of developing countries, Eastern European and Central Asian countries, as well as the new member states of the European Union (EU).
